Making difficult-to-ferment residues available for biogas plants with the BMT-System
WHAT DOES THE BMT-SYSTEM DO?
The BMT-System® makes lignin-containing residual materials available as an energy source for conventional biogas plants. For this purpose, fresh manure or biogas slurry is used as a medium and a mixture (brand name: LignoX®) of natural microorganisms of risk class 1 is added. These two components are heated together, in compliance with a temperature cascade, to a defined reaction temperature.
The hot slurry activated in this way breaks down the lignin layers in the substrates. Transferred to the digester, these previously unutilized carbohydrates significantly increase the gas yield of the biogas plant. The BMT-System® is supplied as a ready-to-connect container plant.

EFFECT MECHANISM BMT-SYSTEM

Advantages of the BMT-System®
- Digestion of lignin-containing residual materials (e.g. horse manure)
- Reduction of feedstock costs
- Reactivation of digestate biomass
- Reduction of the digester feed input
- Increase of the plant capacity
- Not susceptible to interfering substances due to additional equipment
- Reduction of the effective residence time to 60-75 days
- Payback period BMT-System® in most cases less than 5 years
- No formation of floating sludge blankets
Microbiological effect of LignoX®
LignoX® is a symbiotic mixture of natural, highly efficient microorganisms of risk class 1 (harmless), the phytase enzyme and active plant substances, the prebiotics.
In combination with the BMT System®, LignoX® promotes highly efficient conversion processes of substrate components that are difficult to degrade, such as lignocellulose. The highly developed composition of the preparation specifically enhances or inhibits the growth and activity of selected bacterial species, thus significantly increasing the methane yield.

DATA FROM THE PRACTICE OF THE BMT-SYSTEM
In the reference plant (500 kWel) in Upper Bavaria, in addition to the primary substrate corn silage, 1.8-3.5 tons of wheat straw (85% dry matter content) were processed per day with inoculated liquid digestate in a 1:1 ratio. In this process, approx. 1 - 2 kg of the symbiotic mixture of microorganisms LignoX® is required per ton of BMT product for lignin digestion. The heat for the thermal processes is provided by the heating water from the cogeneration plant with a flow temperature of approx. 85°C. The electrical own consumption amounts to approx. 6% of the power to be achieved with the biogas plant. In the reference plant, 1 ton of straw replaces approx. 2.8 - 3.2 tons of corn silage.
